1. What is the Dr. Robert E. Terrell Lodge of Research?
The Dr. Robert E. Terrell Lodge of Research is a statewide research lodge whose membership is open to Master Masons who meet qualifications and are in good standing in a Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons operating under the jurisdiction of the Most Worshipful Union Grand Lodge, Most Ancient and Honorable Fraternity, Free and Accepted Masons PHA, Florida & Belize, Central America Jurisdiction, Inc. Initially, membership will be limited to 100; however in the near future general membership may be open to all Prince Hall Masons in good standing in a Lodge recognized by the Grand Lodge.
The Dr. Robert E. Terrell Lodge of Research was formed for the purpose of providing Masonic Research and to assist Masons to achieve the object of their quest since leaving the west. The method is two-pronged:
- This Lodge of Research will present educational and instructional products that will enable members to learn about and understand this "beautiful system of morals, veiled in allegory"—Freemasonry.
- This Research Lodge will also serve as a Masonic think tank. The Lodge will survey a sample of current events and present papers and other artifacts that represent the perspectives of Prince Hall Masons as men and Masons and contribute to the body of knowledge on the subject.
It meets at least twice a year. The first meeting will be during Grand Lodge session. An agenda item of the first meeting will be to schedule the second meeting. This meeting may be by phone conference or on-line.
All Master Masons are welcome and encouraged to attend the meetings. Ladies and other guests may attend the open portion of the meetings at which papers on various Masonic topics and current events are presented.
Our LOR is new and the first order of business is to become organized and select the first slate of officers. We welcome your interest and support.
2. DO I NEED TO BE A SCHOLAR OR HAVE A COLLEGE DEGREE?
NO! Any active mason will find the Research Lodge’s meeting, papers and publications of interest. While officers are required to produce scholarly research, general membership (the first one hundred qualified Master Masons who are interested in producing or learning to produce scholarly work) must present artifacts that prove an aptitude for producing scholarly work. This will be done by producing a history of one’s lodge. If this has already done the perspective member will be asked to a project of relevance. All officers and members will be expected to write.
Peter Jennings never graduated high school, let alone college, and he certainly achieved great heights. Degrees do not equal intelligence. The emphasis of this LOR is on quality research. Yes, you will be expected to write!
3. HOW DO I LEARN MORE?
You may visit a communication of the lodge without becoming a member. Please routinely check this web site for updated information.
4. WHAT ARE THE COSTS?
